YSRCP leader Kollu Parthasarathy today asked the State government throw light on the status of the Polavaram project vis-à-vis the AP Reorganization Act, cost escalation, request for changing the contractor and other issues.
Addressing media, he said that the party MPs, MLAs, MLCs would personally see the progress of works and find where the government stood so far as its rhetoric was concerned. One thing the State should explain was whether the Central government handed over the project on its own or the State asked for it in spite of being a national project. The State should also clarify if the Centre agreed to an escalation of the project cost.
Meanwhile, State Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said today all problems pertaining to the Polavaram Project including clearing of pending bills and directions to hold up building of the cofferdam and calling of fresh tenders to spillway and spill channel work being executed b the prime contractor Transstroy had been sorted out. He said that the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari gave a categorical assurance that he wanted water to be sent into the Right and Left Polavaram canals by 2018.
Gadkari announced in the meeting that he would take a decision on the fresh tenders after talking with the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. He asked the prime and sub contractors not to stop work. Their bills would be cleared as the Centre was responsible for payments.
