YSRCP MP and party general secretary Y.S.Vijay Sai Reddy today termed the arrest of cartoonist and political satirist on the social media –‘ Political Punch’ Ravi Kiran as politically motivated.

Vijay Sai Reddy along with party legal cell chairman P.Venkata Reddy called on Ravi Kiran who was lodged in Guntur sub-jail and expressed solidarity.

Speaking media, he said false complaints showed the intolerance of the State to criticism. ‘Cartoons are usually satirical in nature. They are an essential part of any news paper. We see cartoons in Telugu newspapers. Are cartoonists in those newspapers arrested? Why is this government targeting only cartoonists on the social media, that too supporters of YRCP, he asked? A court in Mangalagiri granted bail to Ravi Kiran. However, he would have to wait for four more days to be released. Venkata Reddy, who moved the bail petition said Ravi Kiran was implicated under Section 67 of the IT Act. He was arrested in Visakhapatnam on May 12 based on a complaint by MLA Anitha. It may be recalled that Graphic designer arrested Ravi Kiran for posting objectionable content in FB and later let off.

Another social media activist I.Ravindra held?

According to sources, another social media activist Ippala Ravindra has been picked up by the AP Police in Bengaluru. He was working as a software engineer in Bengaluru was reportedly summoned by the State police and was taken into custody. Sources said that he was not allowed to take legal assistance. However, police are yet to confirm the arrest.
