A three-storeyed building collapsed near the Mani Hotel Centre on Nandivelugu Road on Saturday.
However, none were injured as the inmates had been evacuated just a few days ago. The Guntur Municipal Corporation took up the road widening work a few months ago and notices were issued to demolish part of the building.
Locals blamed the contractors engaged by GMC for digging the drains close to the building. An engineering team inspected the site and an enquiry had been ordered by Municipal Commissioner C.Anuradha. She said noticed had been served to K.Narasimha Rao owner of the building that was constructed twelve years ago. She said that the building lacked structural safety.
At about 4pm on Saturday, the building came down and within a few minutes, video footage of the collapse went viral. Locals said that the tenants had complained that it was shaking and expressed their concern.
