The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams is exploring all possible avenues in minimizing the loss arising out of its laddu sales which it claims is more than Rs.220 crore annually.
The TTD board in January gave its green signal to increase the price. But the management is yet to implement it pending ratification form the State government. It is under such desperate conditions that the TTD has decided to focus its attention on alternative channels to bail it out from the deepening crisis.
The management has already enhanced the price of the laddus and other prasadams provided to various spiritual programmes taken up by non-TTD organizations at different parts of the country. Sensing huge potential for the additional laddus, the TTD is planning with the idea of increasing the price of the normal laddus to Rs.50 each, the Kalyanotsavam laddus to Rs.200 and vadas to Rs.100 each as against the existing Rs.25, Rs.100 and Rs.25 respectively.
However, the laddus and other prasadams being issued to the pilgrims having the darshan is left untouched.
