Uttarakhand Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal has served notices to nine Congress MLAs asking them why they should not be disqualified from the membership of the House for violating the party whip. It may be noted here that the BJP a strength of 35 MLAs including 26 from the party and nine from Congress has served a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

In a House of 70, the Congress has 36 MLAs, with six members of Progressive Democratic Front-formed by two BSP MLAs, three Independents and one UKD MLA-backing it. With nine Bahuguna-led MLAs moving towards BJP, the saffron party, which has 28 MLAs, will reach the magic number.
