The election process for Kakinada Municipality will begin from Monday.

The Election Commission has on Saturday night down the curtains by announcing the process in 48 divisions out of 50 divisions with divisions 42 and 48 are under the court purview. These two diviions are located in the three merged villages, Swamy Nagar, Teachers Colony and S.Atchutapuram.

It may be recalled that the SEC had on August 3 issued notification for the conduct of elections to the 50 wards. But one Gummadi Srinu Babu and two others challenged the orders on delimitation of wards fixing the number of seats to reserved SC, ST, BC and Women in these wards.

In pursuance to the interim orders of the High Court, the SEC suspended elections for 42 and 48 divisions. KMC commissioner S. Aleem Basha said that the elections would be held for remaining 48 wards as per the schedule and as per declared reservations.

The election schedule is as under:

Nominations will be accepted from August 7 to 10
Scrutiny of nominations on August 11
Elections will be held on August 29
Counting of votes on September 1
