A lone Dalit family at Datti in Kothavalasa mandal was attacked and abused alleged by ‘caste’ Hindus, who reportedly laid an approach road after uprooting about 150 trees on its assigned land to a village temple in Survey No. 34/15.
A fact-finding team consisting of T.Prakash, State Joint Secretary, Akhila Bharata Rythu Coolie Sangham, D.Lalitha, Visakhapatnam district secretary and others visited the village today to ascertain what led to the alleged social boycott of Moyya Demudu Babu, the Dalit farmer of Datti.
According to the victim, it began 3when he floated Chinna Palem Rythu Samkshema Samiti to save 1,200 acres of Inam land from realtors. About 20,000 families from 11 panchayats around Chinnapalem have been cultivating the land for decades. When the realtors got revenue records tampered and obtained general power of attorney and attempted to convert the same for non-agricultural use, the farmers formed the samiti and elected Babu as secretary. However, agents of realtors at Datti, Dannnanapeta and Appannapalem allegedly signed out the family and laid an approach road through his assigned land at Appannapalem to the temple. When he opposed it, they reportedly assaulted him, his wife and two sons on January 11.
