The State Government will pay the highest summer allowance in the country to those working under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. In addition to the wages earned by workers under the programme, an additional 50 per cent of the wages earned will be paid as summer allowance with a wage cap of Rs.194 per day. The summer allowance used to be 30 per cent but Chief Minister recently increased it to 50 per cent. In will come into force in a couple of days said Panchayat Raj Minister Ch.Ayyanna Patrudu on Tuesday.
The Government directed that workers be allowed to work from 5am to 10 am and later again in the evening to prevent exposure to heat wave conditions in the back drop of 13 NREGS workers died due to heat wave conditions in the State.
