Municipal workers who have been on strike for three days now all over the State have decided to intensify the strike and chalked out an action plan.
Workers, under the banner of AP Municipal Workers and Employees Federation are on strike in 85 municipalities demanding the scrapping of GO 279 alleging it awarded work contracts hitting their job and wage security. The JAC of the workers comprised AITUC and CITU but the former dropped out and now CITU led unions are on strike.
A meeting of the State committee on Wednesday has decided to intensify the strike beginning with rallies on December 22 and laying siege to municipal office on the next day. The protests will continue till December 28. He said at the talks with Director of Municipal Administration on December 16, he gave an oral assurance and in the minutes released said the demands would be taken to the notice of the government.
Of the 110 municipalities that have 40,000 workers, 35,000 in 85 municipalities are on strike.
