Katari Hemalatha, daughter-in-law of slain Mayor Katari Anuradha was unanimously elected as Mayor of the Chittoor Municipal Corporation.
District Collector and Election Officer Sidharth Jain administered her the oath of office. She was earlier unanimously elected corporator of the Ganganapalle division during the by poll process though the other division Mittur went for election between YSRCP and TDP with YSRCP winning the election. As per the directions of the High Court, the mayoral election was scheduled on Saturday.
It may be recalled that Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan who was the TDP district vice-president were brutally murdered in the former’s office allegedly due to disputes with family rivals on November 17, 2015. Mittur corporator Siva Reddy allegedly committed suicide in December 2015 reportedly after police interrogation in connection with the twin murder. The Murder of Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan created a sensation.
The new mayor Katari Hemalatha said that her immediate focus would be on drinking water. Minister for Industries Amarnath Reddy, TDP district president Gownivari Srinivasulu, Chittoor MLA D.A.Satya Prabha, MLC Dorababu, TDP corporators and party activists took part in the oath taking ceremony.
