  • BENGALURU: Light Combat Helicopter for firing trials soon:: Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., said that the Light Combat Helicopter looks set for its combat qualifying weapons trials in April or May after it first armed version gave positive results. It said that this is the third prototype, TD-3 entered the weapon trials phase in late February when it released rockets in a satisfactory performance during tests held in Jaisalmer.
  • CHENNAI:: Honour killing –Girl’s mother arrested:: Four persons including the mother of the girl whose husband was brutally hacked to death in full public view in a suspected case of honour killing in Tirupur district were arrested on Tuesday. The video of the brutal attack on a 22 year old Shankar aired across TV channels showed his three killers approaching him while he was with his wife in broad daylight at Udumalpettai in Tirupur district yesterday. Kausalya is recovering at the government hospital while Shankar was dead on the spot told the media that her father was against their relationship and had threatened to act against Shankar.
  • DEHRADUN:: BJP MLA’s assault on police horse create furore:: Uttakhanad Assembly witnessed noisy scene when the BJP demanded a discussion on the ‘deteriorating law and order situation in the State. Congress said that the Opposition had no moral right to seek a debate on the subject after its MLA attacked a horse with lathis during a protest march on Monday. Police registered a case against the BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi and his supporters under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act while Animal Rights Activists lodged a complaint against him. Joshi allegedly began hitting a 13 year old police horse, Shaktiman causing a fracture in one of its hind legs. Chief Minister Harish Rawat visited the stable at the police lines where it has been kept for treatment. The animal underwent a surgical procedure to fix one of its hind legs
  • MUMBAI: Bhujbal sent to custody:: Senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal was on Tuesday remanded in custody of Enforcement Directorate till March 17 by a special court, a day after he was arrested by the ED in connection with the alleged Maharashtra Sadan scam. The former Deputy Chief Minister was produced before the special Prevention of Money laundering Act court where the ED counsel said he did not cooperate when his statement was recorded by the Agency.
  • Credit SB interest quarterly:: RBI has asked the banks to pay interest on savings Bank account on quarterly basis or shorter duration, a move which will benefit crores of savings bank account holders. At present, the interest is credited in savings bank account on half yearly basis. Interest rate on savings bank account is calculated on daily basis since April 1, 2010. RBI has issued a master circular on March 3, 2016. Public sector banks offer four percent interest on savings bank deposits while private banks offer as much as six percent.
  • NEW DELHI: Three drug companies get High Court Stay:: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted interim stay to Abbott’s India unit and domestic companies Glenmark Pharma and Macleods Pharma on the prohibition on sale of several combination drugs. India banned 344 drug combinations over the weekend including Abbott’s codeine based cough syrup after government panel of experts found they had no therapeutic justification.
  • CBI files charges against Yadav Singh and 13 others:: The CBI on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against suspended UP Chief Engineer Yadav Singh, his wife and six subordinates along with three private firms and their functionaries for awarding of contracts in lieu of bribes causing a loss of Rs.19 crore to the exchequer. Singh, the former Chief Engineer, Greater Noida and Yamuna Express way authorities was arrested last month on the charges he took bribes through his wife Kusum Lata in the form of investments.
  • Mayawati seeks Bharat Ratna for Kanshi Ram:: Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday said the sacrifice of late Kanshi Ram, founder of the BSP should be respected and he should be given the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award. She said that Kanshi Ram worked for the uplift of backward and poor people through his entire life and today being his birthday, I urge the government to pay tributes to him by honoring him with the Bharat Ratna’, she said.
  • THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress worker murdered:: In Kerala, a 28 year old Youth Congress worker Kumar was hacked to death allegedly by workers of the Democratic Youth Federation of India at Evooor in Alappuzha district on Tuesday even as BJP and CPI(M) workers clashed leaving 30 injured. Sources said that Sunil Kumar was woken up from sleep at 2am on Tuesday by 8 activists of the DYFI and attacked as he ran out of the house. Four DYFI workers have been arrested in this connection.
  • Attapaddy Tribal Children get admission in Sainik School:: for the first time in the history of the Sainik School at Kazhakkoottam in Thiruvananthapuram, six children from tribal families of Attappady have got admission for the next academic year by cracking an all-India entrance test and subsequent interview. Though 15 tribal students passed the examination, six were selected on Monday based on the outcome of the interview and medical examination.
