CHENNAI- Bharathiar university charged with violating norms:: The Bharathiar university in Coimbatore that conducted the State level Eligibility Test in 2012 is facing an inquiry form the UGC for allegedly violating norms including irregularities in implementing reservation for OBC candidates. A pass in the SET is a prerequisite for candidates aspiring to be appointed as assistant professors in colleges and universities. The UGC has assigned the university as a nodal agency for conducting the SET. Acting on a complaint that the university had wrongly included creamy layer OBC candidates in the non-creamy layer category.
LUCKNOW- Mayawati attacks Narendra Modi’s stance on reservation:: Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Friday said despite repeated attempts to clarify on the issue, it had become impossible for people to believe that reservation policy was not under threat. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that Narendra Modi’s stance on reservation was comparable to the jumlabbazi of his promise of brining back black money and ushering in ‘acche din’. She urged the Prime Minister to refrain from mere rhetoric and instead rein in elements of the RSS and the BJP who were engaged in issuing wrong statements.
PUNE- Trupti Desai detain again in temple entry issue:: Rangaragini Bhumata Brigade leader Trupti Desai was apprehended yet again by the Maharashtra police as she offered prayers at the Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik on Friday. The RBB was in the news after it vowed to fight gender barriers in State’s temples after its much publicized but unsuccessful attempt to breach the inner sanctum of the Shani Shingnapur temple in Ahmedanagar district on Republic Day this year. She was stopped by police from entering the Temple on Mahashivaratri earlier this month. ‘ We offered prayers to Lord Shiva at Trimbakeshwar temple and prayed that women be allowed into the temple’s inner sanctum’, she said.
