Dr.Kosanam Ramamurthy, a physician who was abducted by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syris (ISIS) militants at Sirte in Libya in 2015 was released and reunited with his family members today on Sunday.
Dr.Ramamurthy thanked the Prime Minister, External Affairs Ministry and other agencies who made efforts for his safe release. He went to Libya some 18 years ago and was working as a physician in Lbn-e-Sina Hospital at Sirte. On September 8, 2015 a group of militants gained entry into the hospital’s residential quarters and abducted Ramamurthy, biochemical engineer Samal Pravash Ranjan of Odisha and seven nurses from Philippines.
Ramamurthy said that the militants shifted him from one camp to another along with them to escape from attacks by security forces. They forced me to work in their hospitals and provide treatment for them. He made them clear that he was only a physician and not a trained surgeon. He said there were activists aged 10 years as well as above 60 years. Some dedicate members and suicide bombers were also there.
