An inter-State gang that downloaded Bahubali-2 movie came down to the city and bargained with the producers demanding money else they would upload the same in the internet.
The producers informed of the same to the police that the CCS DCP Avinash Mahanti laid a trap and arrested six accused in the case.
According to police sources, the producers of the move entered into an agreement with six broadcasters and UMW Digital Services is one of the six. One of the employee identified as Ankit Kumar who worked as software engineer found a minor fault and with that could copy the movie from a server in a theatre. To cash the idea, he contacted one Diwakar from Bihar . Diwakar coordinated a laptop with the server of Veena Theater at Tehara in Bihar and copied the entire movie.
It may be recalled that Baahubali -1 was also subjected to piracy in 2015. The producers lodged a complaint and a case was registered at Jabalpur police station in Madhya Pradesh. Then, the police have arrested Rahul Mehata and his associates. Besides Divakar and Rahul, the other suspects were identified as Jitender Kumar Mehta (37), Ranibagh, Tauffiq (27) of Jama Masjid area, Delhi, Mohd. Ali (39) of Sult-hanpuri, Delhi and Chandan, a native of Patna, Bihar.
Jitender Kumar Mehta, Tauffiq, Mohd. Ali. Chandan wanted to encash the same with the same gang. Rahul went to Mumbai and contacted the producer and director Karan Johar and threatened him if the amount is not paid, the movie would be uploaded in the Internet. Karan said that the producers in Hyderabad and he is only a distributor.
Rahul came back to Hyderabad and consulted Arka media and demanded Rs.15 lakh per week and failing which the movie would be uploaded in the Internet. He also showed him the copy of the pirated movie.
Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni of Arka Media has informed of the same to the cyber crime police and a team led by Chandbasha found the roots of the crime and conducted raids in Delhi and Bihar. They arrested Rahul, Jitender, Tauffiq, Mohd. Ali, Divakar and Chandan.
