The Southern States Hoteliers Association has given a call for bandh of hotels in protest against Goods and Service Tax rates that is going to come into force from July 1, 2017.

The hoteliers said that the 18 per cent tax from the middle class is a burden and had given a bandh call today resulting in over 40,000 hotels down their shutters. Telangana hoteliers Assocaition has extended support for the bandh call. They wanted decrease of GST on the middle class hotels and wanted implementation of tax based on star and non-star hotel basis.

The hoteliers Association vice-president Somaraj said that over 2 lakh hotels down their shutters today in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Puducherry. The hotel workers will put black badges while serving the customers from 29th to 31st May. Hotels, lodges, bakeries, resorts, canteens, tiffin centers and Dhaabas would be affected.
