Two general coaches and four sleeper bogies of Bhubaneswar-bound Train No.18448 Hirakhand Express derailed an Kuneru railway station in Vizianagaram district on Saturday night.

According to reliable sources, several bogies including engine derailed and four bogies had dashed the goods train on the second lane. The reports the rescue teams that were pressed into service could retrieve 25 dead bodies and efforts are on to retrieve the rest. Over 50 passengers were reportedly killed in the accident. Over 100 passengers were injured in the accident. The coaches S6, S7, along with sleeper coach and one AC coach, four general bogies derailed.

The rescue and relief teams form Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam rushed to the accident spot and are on the job. Sources said that the death toll may likely to rise.

Additional Divisional Railway Manager Ajay Arora announcd that so far 35 passengers were killed in the accident. He said that 18 bodies have been identified. He said that a committee has been constituted over the train accident.

Meanwhile, Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakhs to the kin of the deceased and Rs.50,000 for those injured.
