A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K.Vijaya Lakshmi today made it clear that the AP Government must submit details of the people’s representatives who participated in cock-fights during Sankranti.
The Division Bench said rule of law shall be upheld and rejected the submission made on behalf of the government that there were some practical difficulties. The Bench was dealing with a Public Interest Litigation filed by K.Ramachandra Raju. He complained that the officers did not check gambling, women trafficking and other illegal activities carried out under the garb of cockfights. He named two villages, Vempa and Sriramapuram of Bhimavaram mandal, West Godavari district, as major centres.
On January 4, the bench had directed the Chief Secretary and the DGP to take steps to stop the cockfights, particularly in Godavari and Krishna districts and file a report.
