The State government has prepared the modalities for the formation of Andhra Pradesh Drinking Water Corporation and awaits Chief Minister’s nod.
The government aims to supply protected drinking water to every household and monitor the supply in villages, urban local bodies and industries. The corporation would mobilize funds and other sources for maintenance.
Minsiter for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Nara Lokesh speaking at a review meeting on Wednesday asked the officials to design the water grids in such a way that 115 LPD of water was supplied to each household.
The Minister suggested that the State be divided into three zones depending upon the availability of water asked the officials to complete the ground level inspections before October. Works in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari and Krishna districts where water availability was more should be completed at the earliest. In the remaining, the works should be completed before next year.
