According to sources, the Union Ministry of Human Resources has accorded permission to increase another 1,000 seats in IITs in the country.
The Ministry that increased 400 seats in IITs for the academic year 2017-18 has now plans to increase to 1,000 for the academic year 2018-19. Sources said that these seats will be made available not only in IIT like Delhi9, Mumbai, Madras, Khargpur but also in newly established IITs.
In the back drop of the Joint Admission Board that recommended 14% reservation to girls, there may be increase in seas in top IITs. At present there were 10,998 seats in IITs which would be 11,998 if the seats were increased.
Union Ministry of Human Resources has suggested the Joint Admission Board to cancel the seats where there is no demand. The JEE advanced examination will be conducted for admission into IITs for the academic year 2018-19 on May 20, 2018. The job of conducting the examination was entrusted to IIT Kanpur. The examination will be online completely. The examination will be held from 9am to 12 noon for paper -1 and from 2pm to 5pm for paper -2.
