The State government has enhanced the retirement age of government doctors from the existing 60 years to 63 years.

The Principal Secretary, Medical and Health Poonam Malakondaiah has issued orders to this effect today. The doctors with post graduate qualifications working in Vidya Vidhana Parishad, Public Health departments are eligible for the enhancement of retirement age.

It may be recalled that the retirement age was 58 years for the government doctors as on the date of bifurcation of the united Andhra Pradesh and was enhanced to 60 years by the TDP government. With this enhancement, the retirement age is 63 years.

This enhancement of retirement will benefit nearly 3,500 working doctors. Meanwhile, doctors’ associations allege that the enhancement of retirement age was done with the pressures from industrialists and some senior doctors. AP doctors association alleged that the government has taken the decision to benefit those doctors that are close to the top leaders.
