The police have arrested three persons in the Garagaparru Dalits’ social boycott incident today.
Superintendent of Police M.Ravi Prakash speaking to press said that cases were registered under SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Indukuri Balaramakrishna Raju, Mudunuri Rama Raju and Koppla Srinu of the village. He said that investigations by the DSP dealing with the incident said that the accused as being responsible for the social boycott of Dalits in the village.
The SP said that the cases were registered on the directions of the National and State SC, ST commissions and the accused would be produced in the court. He said that the incident took place due to misunderstanding between the communities and that peace committees had been formed to restore normalcy. The situation is under control and added that the outsiders were creating problems in the village.
Meanwhile, the YSRCP president and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is visiting the village on Friday to console the victims. According to the YSRCP programming committee chairman Talasila Raghuram said that h would reach the village at about 11am on road from Gannavaram. He will visit the Girijan victims who were undergoing treatment due to viral fevers and other diseases at Kakinada Government General Hospital in the evening. He will have his night stay at Rampachodavaram.
Harsha Kumar calls of deeksha:: Congress leader and former MP G.Harsha Kumar who has taken up indefinite fast on Wednesday demanding the arrest of the accused has called of the deeksha following the police arrested the three accused in the case.
Mudragada calls on Dalits:: Kapu leader and former Minister Mudragada Padmanabham visited the village and called on the Dalits. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government is harassing him by arrests and other modes for demanding to implement the promises made by TDP. He advised them to fight against injustice meted out like him. He promised to stand by them in their fight.
It may be recalled that the issue surfaced following some people from Dalit community attempted to establish Dr.B.R.Ambedkar statue on April 23.
