Former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A.Sangma passed away on Friday at his Delhi residence due to a heart attack.

Purno Agitok Sanga(68) year old who was unsuccessfully contested the presidential election as an opposition candidate against Pranab Mukherjee. He was former Meghalaya Chief Minister and was elected to Lok Sabha eight times since his first entry to the Lower House in 1977 and was Lok Sabha Speaker between 1996 to 1998.

Sangma was born on 1 September 1947 in village Chapahati in the picturesque West Garo Hills District of the State of Meghalaya in North East India. He hails from a small tribal village. He had graduated from St.Anthony’s College and went to Dibrugarh University in Assam for his Post Graduate degree in International Relations.
