The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Vizianagaram has directed the AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Ltd., to pay Rs.10 lakh as compensation to Pediredla Santosh of Kuntivalasa village for injuries he sustained when he came in contact with a high-tension electric wire.
According to a release from the forum, Santosh, the victim on January 19, 2015 had gone to Uracheruvu, a pond in his village along with his friend to attend calls of nature and came in contact with a low hanging high tension wire. He sustained severe burn injuries and was initially moved to a primary health centre in Gajapatinagaram and from there shifted to Government hospital in Vizianagaram. He was again shifted to KGH on the advice of the doctors. His right hand was amputated to prevent spread of gangrene.
The Forum says that after a detailed investigation found that the accident took place due to the negligence of the operations staff of APEPDCL . The Forum has directed the Discom to pay Rs.10 lakh as compensation.
