  • Chittoor:: Geo-tagging sought for silk saris:: Various weaver societies in Madanapalle on Saturday urged the BC Welfare Minister K.Ravindra to get geo-tagging for the silk saris manufactured by them as their products were subjected to exploitation by corporate textile showrooms They said that tough they were manufacturing fine silk saris, the same were being purchased at cheaper rates and sold at higher prices by giving them popular brands. The Minister assured to take up the issue with the concerned.
  • Tirupati:: Yagasalas gutted:: Four yagasals in the vicinity of the newly rebuilt ‘rajagopuram’ of the Srikalahasti temple were destroyed in a fire on Saturday. Sources said that the temporary structures caught fire and the passenger who noticed smoke emanating from the area alerted the Fire department personal. Short circuit is said to be the cause of the fire accident.

  • Visakhapatnam:: Visakha Transport Parirakshana Samiti denounces hike in fee for transport services:: Visakha Transport Parirakshana Samiti has denounced the gazette notification issued by the Centre authorizing the State to hike the fee for various services by the Transport Department. The representatives of CITU, AITUC, AIFTU and INTUC in a joint statement said that the TDP government had hiked the fee for services offered by various vehicles like auto rickshaws to heavy vehicles. They said that it had organized various protests on the issue and has call for State wide protests on February 7. They warned that they would be forced to go for a Statewide bandh if their stance is not hanged.
  • Visakhapatnam: Private schools demand scrapping of CCE::`The AP Private Schools Association has reiterated the demand to scrap the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation pattern introduced in schools in the State and revert to old system of examination conducted by the District Common Examination Board for the betterment of the students. The APPSA that met the HRD Minsiter Ganta Srinivasa Rao in the past on the issue sent a fresh memorandum on Saturday appealing to him to save students, teachers and school managements of the hassles of the new system. APSA State Chairman K.S.N.Murty said that the Central Board of Secondary Education removed the CCE pattern, there is no point in the Andhra Pradesh government adopting this method. He said that the State government has introduced the CCE pattern with internal assessments from the academic year 2016-17. In this system, the academic year consist of four Formative Assessments and three Summative Assessments causing a lot of confusion and disturbance during the academic year 2016-17.
  • Vijayawada:: Adulterated ghee seized:: The II Town Police on Saturday raided an adulterated ghee manufacturing unit at Old Rajarajeshwaripet here and seized huge quantity of adulterated ghee. On a tip-off, the police searched a flat in Janapriya Apartments and found that adulterated ghee was being manufactured by using some oils and chemicals.
