President’s Rule

On March 1, 2014 President signed ordinance promulgating central rule in Andhra Pradesh. Governor ESL Narasimhan will take over reigns of administration from state government. The MLAs will lose their powers and administrative and police powers will be bestowed upon Governor. The State is placed under President’s rule after Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has tendered his resignation protesting Centre’s decision of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Union Cabinet recommends dissolution of Andhra Pradesh Assembly. It also recommended extension of President’s Rule beyond April 30, 2014. The decision is a technicality as President’s rule in the State expires automatically if it is not ratified b Parliament within a period of two months. Since general elections are underway, it is not feasilble for government to convene Parliament. Apr 25, 2014

Biometric attendance system in Schools
Andhra Pradesh Government has proposed implementation of a biometric attendance system in schools for both students and teachers. The proposal will help ensure accountability. Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that the system will be introduced in Visakhapatnam and would be replicated in other districts in the future. The proposal didn’t go well with the teachers who suspect the motives of the government. They feel that the minister intended to say that teachers are not sincere about their duties. Aug 9, 2014
