142 bags of gutkha seized

Chittoor:: The Chittoor Rural police today seized 142 bags of gutkha valued at over Rs.12 lakh at Indiramma Indlu in Murakambattu and took four persons into custody. A team, led by Circle Inspector raided the locality and seized the stock.

Byreddy announcing winding up of RPS

Kurnool: Citing lack of public patronage, Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy announced the winding up of the political party on Tuesday. Addressing party activists in Muchumarri, he said that he strived for the betterment of the poorer sections but was pained that people did not patronize the party. Party workers raised slogans asking him to join TDP.

Stage III debt redemption from September 10

Vijayawada:: The State government is taking steps to deposit third phase of funds towards farm loan waiver. It will deposit the money into farmers’ accounts before September 10. Minister for Agriculture S.Chandramohan Reddy announced of the same. He said in a release on Tuesday, a provision was made in the budget for the third tranche of Rs.3,600 crore. A 10% interest was included and Rs.1,000 crore deposited into the PD account of Rythu Sadhikara Samstha.

BDS final phase of counselling on Wednesday

Vijayawada:: The web counselling for admissions into BDS courses under competent authority seats will be held on September 6 from 8am to September 7 at 2pm according to Dr.NTR University of Health Sciences Registrar Dr.S.Appala Naidu said in a notification. The candidates who have joined in MBBS courses already are not eligible for the web counselling, he said. Details can be had on the official website

Convocation of Agricultural University on October 4

Amaravati:: The 49th convocation of Acharya NG Ranga Agricultural University will be held on October 4 in Nellore. The Vice-President of India M.Venkaiah Naidu will attend the function as the chief guest. On this occasion, degrees will be awarded to the successful candidates along with medals. The walk-in-interview for teaching associates and assistant posts that were conducted for the past two days have been completed said university sources.

Dasara festivals will be held on a grand scale

Amaravati:: The Principal Secretary for Tourism and Culture Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the Dasara festival will be held on a grand scale. In a review meeting with the officials, he suggested to encourage local artistes. The festival will be celebrated at three places in Vijayawada at Pavitra Sangamam, Padmavati Ghat and Punnami Ghat. The festivals will be celebrated at Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry from September 22 to 30. He said that Crafts Village Festival will be celebrated at Swarjya Maidan in Vijayawada for 10 days in January next year. World Adivasi Sadassu will be held at Araku for three days in November this year, he said.

Government releases Rs.1 crore for the victims of AgriGold

Amaravati:: The State government has released Rs.1 crore as ex-gratia to the victims of AgriGold. The Principal Secretary (Home) AR Anuradha in the orders said that the ex-gratia will be paid to those who committed suicide. The Secretary has ordered the DGP N.Sambasiva Rao take necessary steps. It may be recalled that as many as 142 persons have committed suicides that includes AgriGold agents and depositors. The Chief Minister has announced Rs.5 lakh ex-gratia to those who committed suicide some five months back in the Assembly. If the promise has to be fulfilled, it need Rs.7.10 crore but the State has only released Rs.1 crore said sources.
