Madhu faults government on ration shops

Vijayawada:: The CPI(M) State secretary P.Madhu in a statement today faulted the State government’s plan to hand over ration shops to Reliance and Future Group. He said that the government was acting like a facilitator to corporate companies in the State. Naming the ration shops as village malls was a part of the plan to hand over them to corporate firms, he said.

Food packets for Rohingya refugees

Kakinada:: The Government of India, through the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India is sending food packets to the Rohingya refugees. East Godavari District Collector Kartikeya Misra on Monday monitored the departure of a consignment carrying 620 tonnes of food to Chittagong from the Kakinada deep-water port. As many as 62,000 food packets were prepared for the refugees and each packet carries five kg of rice, two kg dal, one litre of ediable oil, one kg salt, one kg milk powder, mosquito net, soaps and tea powder.

Two persons struck dead by lightning

Kurnool:: A farm labourer, Eediga Narasimhulu was killed and his wife L injured when they were struck by lightning in an agricultural field on the outskirts of Kollur in the district. The couple were standing under a tree during rainfall when lighting struck them. In another incident, Miriyala Rama Rao, a farm worker was killed when lightning struck him at Peda Medapalli in Vizianagaram district.

Assistant food controller trapped

Kurnool:: ACB DSP Jayarama Raju and his staff arrested Kurnool Assistant Food Controller B.Srinivasa Reddy today when he demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs.10,000 from Venkateswara Rao, proprietor of a fast food centre near Kurnool RTC bus stand for not taking action against him. Sources said that the assistant food controller collected biryani samples from the fast food centre on August 10 and sent them to State Food Laboratory in Hyderabad, said the ACB DSP. The accused demanded the bribe for not taking action against the victim.

Nalli Dharma Rao gets Jashua Puraskar

Srikakulam:: Journalist, Kavi and APWDJ State president Nalli Dharma Rao was selected for the Jashua Puraskar for the year. Jashua Vignana Kendram announces Puraskar every year and the Puraskar will be presented to him at a function to be held in Guntur on Tuesday. The Puraskar committee has selected him for his songs on the attack on journalists, communal harmony etc.,
