Vizianagaram:: Union Minister for Civil Aviation P.Ashok Gajapathi Raju today inaugurated a protected drinking water scheme at Dokisila in Parvathipuram mandal today that was executed at a cost of Rs.33 crore. It will supply water to 66 villages. As part of ‘Intintiki Telugu Desam’ programme, he addressed a public meeting at the village. He said the aim was to supply at least 100 litres of drinking water to each house.
Machilipatnam:: Krishna District Collector B.Lakshmi Kantham suspended Jaggayyapeta Tahsildar Chandrasekhar Naik today for transporting sand from the district to Telangana illegally. District Collector said that Naik’s action amounted to violation of the State sand policy. He was accused of transporting the sand in two lorries that were seized by the police on September 13 at Mukthyala inter-State check post. Naik reportedly produced orders to the police to secure release of the lorry. Departmental investigation is on in the case. It is alleged that the sand was diverted to facilitate construction of Naik’s house in Telangana.
Srikakulam:: YSRCP State general secretary Dharmana Prasada Rao will undertake ‘chalo Neradi’ programme on Monday as part of the party’s efforts to step up pressure on the government to allocate funds immediately for the construction of Neradi barrage across Vamsadhara. Members of the Sikkolu Jala Sadhana Samiti, retired engineers, and local public representatives would participate according to a press release.
Kurnool:: Kadapa MP Y.S.Avinash Reddy warned of staging a 48 hour hunger strike on October 2 if the government failed to release water to the KC Canal and Telugu Ganga ayacut before October 1. While Srisailam reservoir level was 864.3 feet, 50,000 cusecs was being released to Nagarjunasagar for power generation, ignoring the irrigation needs of Kadapa district, he said.
Kurnool:: A farmer, Nagasubba Reddy was killed when he was struck by lightning at his agricultural field in Sunkesula of Khajipeta mandal in Kadapa district. Police shifted the body to the area hospital at Proddatur for a post mortem examination.
