Water level increases in Somasila reservoir

Nellore:: Water level in the Somasila reservoir has crossed 20 tmc following increase in the inflows form the upper catchment areas. The inflows into the dam have reached 6,700 cusecs and this is expected to continue for a few more days as rains continue in the catchment areas.

Two minor irrigation engineers trapped

Kurnool:: ACB officials arrested DE Ramana Reddy and AE Varaprasad of the Minor Irrigation department at Khajipet in Kadapa district today on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs.80,000 from Khaddirullah for clearing the bills for works executed under the ‘Neeru Chettu’ programme. The ACB registered a case against them and continued searches in the department’s office.

Section 30 imposed

Rajamahendravaram:: Urban SP B.Rajakumari has announced imposition of Section 30 of the Police Act in the purview of 11 police stations under the urban police district. In a statement on Tuesday, she said no meetings, congregations, rallies or padayatra would be allowed without proper permission from the police station concerned. Those violating the orders would be dealt with seriously, she warned.

CPI(M) leader M.Babu Rao arrested

Srikakulam:: Former MP and CPI(M) leader Midiyam Babu Rao was arrested and sent to the Meliyaputti police station when he tried to interact with the displaced persons of the Vamsadhara project. CITU State vice president D.Govinda Rao and a few other leaders contended that the police has no right to arrest them as they did not resort to any unlawful activity. Speaking to media, Babu Rao demanded that compensation to the project displaced be paid as per the Land Acquisition Act of 2013. He demanded withdrawal of cases slapped on CPI(M) leaders during the last few weeks.

Three women washed away

Kurnool:: Three women, Vadla Sivamma (55), Kummari Maddamma (50) and Shaik Naseemun Bi (45) were washed away while trying to cross the Kundu at Garigarevula village in the district according to District Collector S.Satyanarayana. The Collector assured ex gratia of Rs.5 lakh each to the next kin of the victims through Chandranna Bhima Scheme.

Nandamuri Balakrishna slaps fan

Hindupur:: Actor and TDP MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna today allegedly slapped a fan at Hindupur taking the number of such incidents to three in the last three months. He is on a three day tour of the constituency participated in the party’s ‘Intintiki Telugu Desam’ programme. As he went from house to house in the Boyapeta area, one of his fans stepped into the house before Balakrishna did and irritated over this, he allegedly slapped him. It may be recalled that he had slapped a fan during the election campaigning in Nandyal last month and hit another during a shooting of his film.

Stone laid for bypass road

Vizianagaram:: The 17.20 km long bypass to Visakhapatnam-Raipur Road which is to be completed in 24 months, will help controlling number of accidents. The Centre had sanctioned a sum of Rs.4,153 crore for widening of 13 NHs into four lanes and this is one of them. Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated seven among them through a video link in Vijayawada and laid the foundation stone for the remaining projects.
