Visual delight for devotees

Tirupati:: It was a visual delight for devotees as the processional deities of Lord Govindaraja Swamy accompanied by His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi were taken out in a grand procession atop the celestial carriers – Kalpavriksha Vahanam on the fourth day of the annual ‘Brahmotsavams’ at Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple on Sunday.

Donations sought for orphanage

Srikakulam:: Srikakulam Joint Collector -2 P.Rajanikanta Rao on Saturday said that people would get happiness when they engage themselves in charitable activities. He called upon people to donate some amount for the study of orphans of Anuraga Nilayam and other institutions. He congratulated SBI retired officers on their gesture for the children of Anuraga Nilayam. He said that they donated kits containing uniform, shoes, school bag and books.

Vehicles on highway to come under scanner

Rajamahendravaram:: The Rajamahendravaram urban police will soon introduce speed guns and GPS system to tack the vehicles that exceed speed limits. This was announced by Additional SP R.Damodar on Saturday. Speaking to media, he said that five teams were formed to control traffic highways and the teams would be coordinated by DSP Bharat Mataji who is heading woman police station at present. All the five teams would focus on 15 km stretch from Rajanagaram to Kadiyapulanka and would monitor vehicles round the clock. He said that those who violate the rules would be booked under section 279 of IPC and produced directly in court.

Cashew workers seek better wages

Srikakulam:: Over 15,000 women workers of the cashew industry have been up in arms over the delay in wage revision on a part with Kerala workers. The workers of Kerala are reportedly being paid Rs.38 to cut one kg of cashew nuts against Rs.21 in Palasa, one of the major markers in the country. The workers are also insisting on PF, ESI and extra payment for additional work.

GUDA’s general body in place

Kakinada:: Highlighting the need for developing the jurisdiction of the Godavari Urban Development Authority (GUDA) with all civic amenities, Home Minister N.Chinarajappa congratulated the general body of the newly formed UDA on its swearing in. While Ganni Krishna sworn-in chairman, Gatti Satyanarayana, Pilli Ravi Kumar and Elisetti Chinna Narayana took oath as directors.

MGNREGA national award for Vizianagaram

Vizianagaram:: The Ministry of Rural Development has selected Vizianagaram as one among the 17 districts across the nation for the MGNREGA annual award for effective implementation of the Act during 2015-16. It would be presented at the Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Sammelan to the district Collector on June 19 in New Delhi said District Collector Vivek Yadav at a press conference.

Jaitely will re-examine some GST rates

Vijayawada:: Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has agreed to re-examine the rates of tax on certain goods and services requested by the AP State Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu at the GST Council meeting held in New Delhi on Saturday.
