CPI(M) protest foiled

Ongole:: CPI(M) State secretary P.Madhu and 12 others were taken into custody when they agitated in support of the displaced Dalits at Devarapalli village in Parchur on Sunday. The police bodily lifted and bundled them into vans and foiled their protest meeting planned in support of the 39 Dalit families that had been evicted from 22 acre of ‘kunta poramboke’ land being enjoyed by them for decades on the pretext of restoring water courses.

Debt ridden chilli farmer commits suicide

A chilli farmer Sudhakar (35) committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree in his agricultural field in Bantuhal village of Chippagiri mandal on Sunday. The farmer, who raised chilli in 3.50 acres of land sold the crop to traders of Sholapur. As the traders did not pay him money as promised and the debtors mounted pressure resulted him in taking the extreme step said police sources.

Villagers oppose highway project

Chittoor:: Villagers of Battmdoddi in Palamaneru constituency on Sunday staged a protest against the proposed Madanapalle-Palamaneru highway works mooted at an estimated cost of Rs.300 crore as they felt that it would hamper the agricultural activity. Industries Minsiter N.Amarnath Reddy who is camping in the district rushed to the village and the protesters that the project would bring them multiple benefits. He asked them not to be carried away by speculation over the fate of their lands.

Kapu youth to take out rally

Kakinada:: Kapu youth over 200 in number from different parts of East Godavari district participated in a motor-cycle rally organized from the residence of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham in large numbers. The rally was to create awareness among the people about the importance of ‘Chalo Amaravati’ padayatra to be undertaken by Mudragada on July 26 to bring pressure on the government to include Kapus in the list of BCs. Mudragada flagged of the rally and said that it would be an issue of life and death for every citizen of the community.

JC Diwakar Reddy denied boarding

Hyderabad:: TDP MP JC Diwakar Reddy was not allowed to board a Vijayawada flight on Sunday by a regional airline which later apologized to him saying he was not barred from the flights of that regional carrier. Reddy scheduled to board a TruJet flight at 6.40am from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Before he could arrive at the airport, his office was informed that he could not take the flight. Though Reddy was banned from taking Air India or Indigo flights, TruJet had not banned him. While the plane departed without the MP, the airline apologized to him and called the incident as misunderstanding.

Indla Vishal elected as president of Indian Psychiatric Society AP Chapter

Anatapuram:: Dr.Indla Vishal has been unanimously elected as the president of AP Chapter of Indian Psychiatric Society. In a two-day meet held at the government medical college auditorium here, the new committee was formed. Ramesh Chandra Balaji (Nellore) is the society Secretary, Dr.Srinivas Teja (Nellore) as the vice-president, Y.Prabhakar (Anantapur) as the treasurer and Dr.Vijaya Lakshmi (Vijayawada) was elected as journal editor.

GST effect on TTD cottages

Tirupati:: The GST will be applicable to the rooms/cottages on rental basis to the pilgrims with over Rent of Rs.1,000. However, rental less than Rs.1,000 are exempted. With the new rates coming into effect from July 10 goes as under:
Rental at present 1,500 goes to Rs.1,700 (12% GST)
Rs.2,000 goes to Rs.2,200 (12%)
Rs.2,500 goes to Rs.3,000 (18%)
Rs.3,000 goes to Rs.3,500 (18%)
Rs.3,500 goes to Rs.4,100 (18%)
Rs.4,000 goes to Rs.4,700 (18%)
Rs.4,500 goes to Rs.5,300 (18%)
Rs.6,000 goes to Rs.7,100 (18%)
