Chittoor:: AP Minister for Transport K.Atchannaidu today said that a few power hungry leaders were trying to drive a wedge between people along caste line. Addressing the gathering after hoisting the TDP flag in Kanipakam near here, he urged the people to drive away the forces causing unrest and teach a fitting lesson to those daydreaming of coming to power in the State.
Kurnool:: Women and schoolchildren ransacked furniture and broke liquor bottles in a wine shop located on the Allur Rod in Nandikotkur town on Thursday demanding that the shop be shifted out of residential area. The protesters staged a dharna on the road and alleged that guzzlers were behaving indecently and creating nuisance in the area.
Vijayawada:: K.V.Sivaprasad, the 1982 batch IRS Engineer took over as Principal Chief Engineer of the SC Railway according to a press release. He passed out from IIT Madras in 1982 served in various capacities in the Indian Railways. He joined the Railways as a probationer in September 1984 and commenced his career as Assistant Engineer, Ramagundam.
The CPI(M) along with likeminded opposition parties and Dalit organizations will step up the agitation in support of the displaced Dalits of Devarapalli said party’s Prakasam district secretary P.Anjaneyulu. CPI (M) Polit Bureau member B.V.Raghavulu would join the agitation seeking justice for the Dalits on July 29, he said to media today. The party would mobilize funds for the Dalits to wage a legal battle to retrieve the 22 acres of land the 40 Dalit families had been cultivating for decades. A solidarity committee would be constituted by roping in representatives of political parties and civil society organizations sympathetic to the Dalits’ cause to take forward the struggle for retrieving the land, he said.
