Vijayawada:: The State government and two Australian universities have reached an understanding for establishment of mining university in the State. At a meeting Australian Counsel General (Chennai) Sean Kelly had with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Monday. The two sides also agreed for conservation of water resources in the State. MoU for them were signed with Western Australia University and Curtin University.
To encourage girls in the aviation sector and pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, US based global aerospace giant Lockheed Martin and Women in Aviation International (India chapter) are jointly organizing ‘Girls in Aviation Day’ in the city on December 13. Around 50 girls from two schools who will explore the world of aviation and engineering during a visit to the Visakhapatnam Airport. They will also get an opportunity to learn from employees and discuss airport operations.
Vijayawada:: APCC president N.Raghuveera Reddy hailed the election of Rahul Gandhi as the national president of Congress. In a press releasem, he stated that Gandhi was the 5th person from the Gandhi-Nehru family to become the Congress president.
Vijayawada:: Minister for Municipal Administration P.Narayana has instructed the officials concerned to complete the foundation work for all three packages of government housing projects in the capital region by the end of January. During an inspection of the ongoing works at Mandadam, Nelapadu and Rayapudi today along with CRDA Additional Commissioner S.Shan Mohan and others, he wanted arrangements should be made immediately for supplying water to the civil works undertaken by NCC Ltd., Shapoorji and Pallonji and L&T.
Amaravati:: Union Water Works joint secretary Anup Srivastsava on Monday released Rs.318.22 crore for the Polavaram project works. The earlier government has spent Rs.5,135.87 crore as on April 1, 2014 for the works. The AP Government has spent Rs.7,431.35 crore after it was declared as national project. The Centre has released Rs.4,329.06 crore so far and has to release Rs.3,102.29 crore. On the request of the State government, the Centre has released Rs.318.22 crore.
Srikakulam:: Assistant Excise Commissioner M.Siva Prasad working at Srikakulam was placed under suspension following charges that he was collecting mamuls from the traders and businessmen in Srikakulam and Palakonda. The Excise Commissioner has reportedly issued warning and the ACB has on last 29th had conducted raids on his residence and found Rs.4.50 lakh cash. He was arrested by the ACB officials. In this context, the government Special Principal Secretary D.Sambasiva Rao has issued orders placing him under suspension.
