Vijayawada:: The police has arrested B.Vidyasagar on Sunday in the suspicious death of Dr.K.Surya Kumari (25) whose body was found in Ryves canal in the district. The Machavaram police on August 1 had booked a case of missing following a complaint made by victim’s mother Mariyamma. The Commissioner of Police D.Gautam Sawang said that Surya Kumari might have died three days ago and the body was found in a highly decomposed condition. The Machavaram police registered a case against Vidyasagar under Sec.420 IPC, 417 and 306 of IPC. He was remanded to judicial custody. It may be recalled that Missing doctor Surya Kumari’s body found after five days.
Srikakulam:: Activists of the CPI(M) and the CITU staged an agitation at Ranasthalam in the district opposing the proposed Kovvada atomic power plant on Sunday. They timed the protest to coincide with Hiroshima Day to drive home the message that the atomic power plant would be akin to an atomic bomb should anything go wrong in its operation. They alleged that the NPCIL was acquiring land before obtaining permission form the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board.
Vizianagaram:: District Arya Vysya Welfare Association has thanked YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for promising to constitute a corporation exclusively for the community immediately after coming to power in 2019. At a press conference on Sunday, the presidents of the district and town committees said that Jagan alone responded their appeal for a corporation though it was put forth before all the political parties in the past.
Ongole:: The CPI will exert pressure on the Union and State governments to bail out the farmers facing severe drought in the State. The CPI State secretary K.Ramakrishna said that the TDP was indulging in politicking when farmers in the rain-fed areas were struggling to give lifesaving irrigation to their crops as the southwest monsoon played truant, he told to media at Kandukur town in Prakasam district on Sunday. He inaugurated a training session to strengthen the party workers ahead of 2019 general elections. He said that the party would work for the larger unity among democratic and secular forces across the country as regional parties succumbed to overt and covert threats from the BJP.
Hyderabad:: Noted poet, writer, playwright actor, editor, essayist, biography writer and advocate Dr.Potukuchi Sambasiva Rao (92) passed away on Sunday morning at his residence in Hyderabad. He conducted Telugu State Maha Sabhas in 1961 and World Telugu Maha Sabha in 1975 and left an indelible impression in organizing them. He was born on January 27, 1928 in Alamuru in East Godavari district to Potukuchi Narasimha Murty and Smt.Suramma.
