  • KHAMMAM: Bhadrachalam temple will be developed with Rs.100 crore:: Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhara Rao has announced that Rs.100 crore will be allocated for the development of the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam in the current financial year. Speaking media after attending Sri Sitarama Kalyana Mahotsavam here on Friday afternoon, he said the funds would be utilized to develop the historic shrine and improve amenities like vehicle parking in the famous temple town. A blueprint would be prepared soon in consultation with Chinna Jeeyar Swamy to ensure the development of Bhadrachalam shrine, Jatayu Mandapam near the temple town and Parnashala in Dummugudem mandal.
  • KURNOOL: Crop loss forces farmer couple to attempt suicide:: tenant farmer, Ramachandrudu and his wife Giddamma attempted suicide by consuming pesticide in Boyarevula of Venugodu mandal of the district on Thursday night. The tenant farmer took agricultural land on lese and cultivated blackgram in three acres and maize in three more acres. He incurred losses due to poor crop yield. When land owner demanded payment of the annual lease amount, he told him about the crisis and reportedly paid Rs.5,000. Anguished at being penniless, the tenant farmer and his wife who have three children consumed pesticide. They were administered first aid in a private hospital and later admitted to Government hospital where their condition is said to be critical.
  • MACHILIPATNAM: Telugu Theatre Day::The Andhra Pradesh State Film, TV and Theatre Development Corporation in collaboration with Krishna District Cultural Association will celebrate Telugu Theatre Day here on Saturday.
  • VISAKHAPATNAM: Worker drowns in manhole::' A GVMC sanitary worker died after falling into a manhole near Siripuram on Friday while cleaning the sewage pipeline. Locals said that the incident took place at about 4.20pm when D.Appalakonda (35) a resident of Pineapple Colony slipped into the manhole when trying to clear a blocked drain and was unable to come out. There was no other worker with him. Sources said that constables of III Town police station and a few citizens attempted to enter the manhole to rescue him but in vain. The 108 ambulance service that arrive along with fire services personnel did not have any oxygen cylinders but staff from the HSBC BPO provided a blower along with pipes for supplying air into the manhole.
  • City to host couple of IPL matches in May::Following the Bombay High Court ordering the 13 IPL matches in Maharashtra scheduled to be held after April 30 to be moved out of the State due to severe drought conditions, Shukla had given four (Vizag, Raipur, Jaipur and Kanpur) options to the Mumbai and Pune franchises. Vizag, a non-IPL franchisee city in Andhra Pradesh has hosted five IPL matches including three matches of IPL 2015 after Sunrisers Hyderabad picked the stadium as their venue. This season, Sunrisers Hyderabad will be playing seven matches in Hyderabad and at other venues as the team’s management re not interest in hosting matches in Vizag following some differences with cops and others during the last IPL season. ACA Secretary, Gokaraju Ganga Raju said that Vizag was likely to host a couple of IPL matches in May.
  • VPT sings 5 MoUs at maritime summit:: Vizag Port had signed five MoUs with various organizations worth Rs.20,000 crores at the ongoing maritime summit 2016 at Mumbai on Friday. These MoUs were signed by VPT Deputy Chairman T.Harinadh in presence of its Chairman M.T.Krishna Babu and ministry of shipping secretary Rajive Kumar. The first MoU was between VPT and Visakha Container Terminal Pvt.Ltd., for establishment of second container terminal with an investment of Rs.633 crores on PPP mode. The second was for land allotment to M/s HPCL for expansion of existing capacity of the refinery with an investment of Rs. 18,412 crore. The third was between VPT and ITD cementation for reconstruction of EQ2 to EQ5 berths with an investment of Rs.178 crore. The fourth with Visakhapatnam Port Road Company for two lane road connectivity to NH-16 and the fifth being with Balmer and Lawrie for establishing multi model logistic par in 100 acres with an investment of Rs.211 crore.
  • Divis Fire accident-Injured person died:: One of the three contract workers G.Bhaskhara Rao who sustained burn injuries while working at Divis Lab, Bhimili ten days back succumbed to injuries on Friday. The 19-year-old Bhaskara Rao hails from Kotabommali area of Srikakulam was on ventilator at a corporate hospital for the last two days. He sustained 84 per cent burn injuries. The condition of the other two are said to be stable.
  • YSRCP district president Amarnath hunger fast enters second day for Rail Zone:: The indefinite hunger strike by YSRCP district president Gudivada Amarnath demanding Railway Zone to Andhra Pradesh with headquarters at Vizag entered second day on Friday. Party top functionaries and representatives of various other political parties also visited Amarnath and extended their support to the fasting leader.
  • ECoR bags railway shield::The East Coast Railway bagged the Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant Best Zonal Railway Shield-2015 for all round performance among the zones in the Indian Railways. This is the second time that ECoR has won the shield with the first one in 2008 said Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division M.Yelvender Yadav. The shield instituted in the memory of Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, freedom fighter and former Union Minister for Home Affairs is given every year to the Zonal Railway whose performance is adjudged the best among the Zonal Railways. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu will hand over this shield to ECoR during the Railway Week National Award Function to be held at Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
  • VIJAYAWADA: Heat wave to continue for another two days :: The State Government issued a weather bulletin on Friday cautioning people that severe heat wave conditions would prevail in 30 mandals and moderate conditions prevail over remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh for next two days. Disaster Management Director stated that severe heat wave condition prevailed in 37 mandals and heat wave conditions in 1155 mandals on Friday
