  • Ongole:: Dalits re-enact Mahad Satyagraha:: Activists of the dalit Hakkula Parirakshna Samiti re-enacted on Sunday the Mahad Satyagraha enacted by Dalit icon B.R.Ambedkar by burning Manusmriti. The activists shouted slogans against the ruling BJP TDP combine for pursing with vigor the neo-liberal economic policies which marginalized the Dalits and curtailed the benefits of reservation. Dalit Hakkula Parirakshna Samiti president leading a protest in front of the Ambedkar statue said that liberalization, privatization and globalization policies meant expansion of the private sector and loss of education and job opportunities in the public sector for Dalits guaranteed by the Constitution.
  • Visakhapatnam:: Dy.EE (R&B) Patro arrested and remanded:: The Deputy Executive Engineer (R&B) (Electrical Sub Division) Subhas Chandra Patro who was found to have amassed disproportionate assets worth Rs.4.08 crore was arrested by ACB team from Central Investigation Union on Sunday. The ACB sleuths are yet to open a locker of the accused and will be opened on Monday. Even the investigation is going on, unofficial estimates put the value of the assets to around Rs.50 crore. The accused was produced before the ACB court on Sunday and was remanded till January 5, 2017. The movable and immovable properties are – 13 open house plots in Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts. A flat and an individual house at Venkojipalem and Visalakshinagar and a commercial complex at Madhurawada in the city. The movable property are a car and a two wheeler, gold weighing 608 grams, silver articles weighting 85 grams, Rs.1.08 lakh cash, household articles valued at Rs.7 lakh, bank balances of Rs.29 lakh, fixed deposits of 10 lakh, chit for Rs.19 lakh and LIC policies for Rs.6 lakh.
  • Vijayawada:: Mahabrinda Natyam performed with 6,117 performers creates Guinness World Record:: The Mahabrinda Natyam was performed with 6,117 performers created a new Guinness World Record here on Sunday for the largest Kuhipudi dance. Guinness adjudicator Rishinath has handed over the certificate for the feat to Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu. Silicon Andhra, a cultural non-profit organization which has been building momentum for the event in association with the Andhra Pradesh Government, staged it at IGMC Stadium. The ‘Mahabrinda Natyam’ was part of the 5th International Kuchipudi Dance Convention hosted by the state Department of Language and Culture. The audience was also treated to ‘Ananda Tandavam’, another hallmark Kuchipudi composition by Vempati China Satyam, presented by Madhavapeddi Murthy.
  • Hyderabad:: Three held for gun attack on bank CEO:: A casual discussion by a gang of four while drinking, that bankers were making money by exploiting the demand for the new currency notes, sowed seeds for the gun attack on KBS Bank CEO Manmath Dalai at an apartment in Masab Tank a week ago. Three of them Shaik Abdul Raheem, Ervva Naresh and M.Rajender were caught on Sunday after a massive manhunt by Hyderabad Police. The special teams cracked the case with the help of the IT Cell’s Video Enhancement Technology. The fourth accused M.Venkata Ratnam is at large. The CEO said that a stranger claiming to be a crime branch inspector demanded money when Dalai sought ID proof, the stranger whipped out a pistol and fired at the wall of the house apparently to scare them. When he and his wife ran into the bed room, the attacked fired second time and a bullet hid Dalai on his thigh while the culprit fled.
