Veteran actor Sri Devi (54) died of cardiac arrest today in Dubai.
Sridevi with her husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi went to Dubai to attend nephew and actor Mohit Marwah’s wedding. She married film producer Boney Kapoor and is survived by husband and two daughters Janhvi and Khushi.She was born on August 13, 1963 in Sivakasi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences. ‘Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles ad memorable performance. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace’, he said.
President Ram Nath Kovid tweeted:’ Shocked to her of passing of movie star Sridevi. She has left millions of fans heartbroken. Her performances in films such as Moondram Pirai, Lamhe and English Vinglish remain an inspiration for other actors. My condolences to her family and close associates’.
Sridevi’s brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor said that it happened roughly around 11 to 11.30.
Sridevi born as Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films before entering Hindi film world. She startd acting in the late 1960s. She won her state award for best child artist in 1971 for Poombata. Her first adult role was ast the age of 13 in Tamil Film Moondru Mudichu (1976). She went on to become one of the biggest female stars in the country.
The Government of India awarded her Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour in 2013. She was last seen in 2017 film MOM.
