The Andhra Pradesh State Assembly today passed the Andhra Pradesh (Regulation of Appointments to public services and rationalization of staff pattern and pay structure) (Amendment) Bill 2017.

Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu moved the Bill in the House that was adopted unanimously paving way for appointment of Olympic medalist P.V.Sindhu as Group I officer. Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said that the amendment to the existing Act was required to appoint her as Group I officer. It may be recalled that the State cabinet passed a resolution in August 2016 to provide employment to Sindhu in appreciation of her outstanding performance in the Olympics. The State government also gave her a 1,000 sq.yards residential plot in Amaravati.

GST Bill passed amid protests by YSRCP

The State government has today ratified the Goods and Service Tax Bill joining the league of States which had already approved the legislation that would pave the way for rollout of a single and unified tax system. The Bill was ratified amidst acrimonious scenes by YSRCP that resorted to slogan shouting demanding discussion on the chilli farmers’ issue. The Opposition party did not take part in the discussion on the Bill.
