The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee has written to the Election Commission of India to cancel the registration of YSRCP and declare all its MLAs as independents. A writ petition has also been filed on the same lines in the High Court.
APCC general secretary and advocate P.Suri Babu in a letter said that the use of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s portrait and initials by a new party formed by his son Jagan Mohan Reddy was unfair, unethical, illegal and irregular. He asked the Election Commission to direct them to stop using the portrait of Rajasekhara Reddy on its party material.
He asked the Election Commission to cancel the registration of YSRCP invoking the statutory power under the election laws. He also urged the EC to treat all members elected in the name of the regional party after June 2, 2014 as independent candidates for all purposes.
