AFD Bank (French Development Agency) has agreed to provide a financial assistance of Rs.1,000 crore for implementation of LED street lighting programme in the rural areas of the State.

The State government has finalized an action plan to install 40 lakh of energy efficient street lights in villages and panchayats. The State government has chosen Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor, East Godavari and Vizianagaram districts to install 10 lakh LED street light in the first phase. Installation of LED lights will commence on October 2 and 300 teams will be pressed into service to install 10,000 LED lights per day. The project is to be completed by March 31, 2018.
