District Collector Pravin Kumar and Commissioner of Police T.Yoganand in a joint press conference made it clear that holding protest meet on national days such as Independence Day or Republic Day is against the guidelines of Supreme Court and such a move will not be allowed.
This came following a move to state silent protests on January 26. Pravin Kumar said that high alert has been declared and adequate bandobust was being made on the beach road as the Partnership Summit will be held close to the beach. ‘ We are sending appeal to all schools, colleges and universities and also appealing the parents not to allow their children to take part in any such protests on that day. We are not against any protest but it can be held on a later date after obtaining permission, he said.
City Police Commissioner T.Yoganand said that nobody has claimed ownership to the Facebook page and no permission has been given so far. Any congregation will be treated unlawful and basing on the situation action will be initiated. Section 30 of Police Act is in force and security teams will be posted and additional check posts will be set up, he said.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) has urged the people especially students to join the proposed silent protest at RK Beach on January 26. District Secretary Lokanadham gave a call to the people to rise above politics and protest demanding SCS to the State. YSRCP is also planning for a candle light march from VUDA Park to RK Beach on the same day. The Police Commissioner said that permission has not been accorded to the protest programme.
