Director General of Police N.Sambasiva Rao today evening said that there were no restrictions on the movement of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham.

However, he said that he has not been placed under house arrest anymore and he can carry out his daily routine and meet people at his residence and go out on his personal work without any restrictions. However, if he takes out a padayatra without taking permission, he would be arrested, said the DGP.

Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni at a hurriedly convened press conference said that Section 144 of the Cr.P.C. was in force in the district. However, Clause 3 was not applicable to Mudragada Padmanabham and he could move freely. The only condition is that there should not be more than four persons around him at any given point of time when prohibitory orders were in place.

Life in Kirlampudi continues to be affected::Life continues to be affect on the second consecutive day on Thursday in Kirlampudi and neighbouring villages with the deployment of heavy police to avert any untoward incidents. The cluster of villages was completely under the police cordon. Communication gap between the police and the people led to prolonged arguments or silent protests in the middle of the town.

YSRCP faults Government:: The YSRCP accused the TDP of betraying the Kapus by going back on the promise of providing them reservation under the BC category. Party general secretary Bhumana Karunakar Reddy flayed the Chief Minister for proving his ‘poor credibility’ by not according BC status to the community though three years elapsed since it was promised by Chandrababu. He said that instead of materializing his promise, he is resorting to high-handed action, said Karunakar Reddy.

Congress demands government to permit padayatra:: AP Congress Party’s Kapu Sadhikara Vibhagam leaders Narahamsetti Narasimha Rao and P.Suri Babu have demanded the government to permit the padayatra of Mudragada Padmanabham. They warned the Chief Minister against playing with the sentiments of the community which they claimed constitutes about 30 per cent of the vote bank. They said that the padayatra proposed was being supported by all sections of people cutting across political lines but the Chief Minister was suppressing the democratic form of protest.

Mudragada Padmanabham made it clear that he would resume his ‘padayatra’ from August 3 from his residence and proceed towards Amaravati to press the demand of inclusion of Kapu community in the list of BCs. It may be recalled that Mudragada Padmanabham was placed under house arrest for 24 hours well before the start of his padayatra resulting in postponement of the yatra to August 3.
