YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy tweeted on Sunday that by inviting and then restraining MLA R.K.Roja from participating in the National Women’s Parliament, the organizers made a mockery of the event.
If the government treats an MLA in such a way, what safety do women have in society?, he questioned. It may be recalled that Roja was allegedly detained by the police at Gannavaram airport before she proceeded to the venue.
Roja alleged that she was held up at the airport on her arrival from Hyderabad in spite of showing the invitation and took strong objection to the contention of the police that she would have created trouble at the event.
Sources said that YSRCP will file a petition in the High Court and the Human Rights Commission for preventing Roja from participating in the National Women’s Parliament. Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Chittoor MLA said that the State of Andhra Pradesh is under dictator rule. Roja’s detention has proved this. When the government is against her participation in the event, why should it extend an invitation to her?, he question. This shows that the government had no respect for women.
‘National Women’s Parliament a success’, says Kodela
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Assembly Kodela Sivaprasada Rao on Sunday said that the three day NWP, a first of its kind in the country was organized successfully. He said that sustained efforts were made for the past four months to make the arrangements for the conference.

If they don’t leave home, all of this can be avoided’, he said and that created a strong condemnation in social media. He went on to add that if girls chose to remain housewives like in the olden days, they could avoid serious crimes, barring discrimination.
