YSRCP leader Dharmana Prasada Rao seeks ST status for fishermen

Wednesday, December 13, 2017

Former Minister and YSRCP senior leader Dharmana Prasada Rao has alleged that the government cheated the fishermen by denying ST status for their community in spite of its categorical poll promise during last general elections.

He visited the relay hunger strike camp of the Matyakara ST Sadhana Samithi at the Collector’s office today and extended support. He said that the community deserves the ST status as a majority of fishermen remained backward in all aspects. Members of the community said that their existing BC-A category was overloaded with inclusion of 14 more communities in the State and claimed that though the community was having the largest population after Kapus. It was denied due to political recognition.

The fishermen alleged that youth of the community were unable to get jobs due to denial of ST status. They made a representation to Dharmana Prasada Rao explaining the community’s status in other States. He assured them of bringing their issue to the notice of party chief Jagan Mohan Reddy.
