The YSRCP leadership announced Silpa Mohan Reddy as the candidate for the Nandyal Assembly constituency.
The announcement of fielding a candidate from the party for the Nandyal by-election is not a surprise but dashed the hopes of the TDP getting the candidate Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy elected unanimously.

Similarly, Gangula Prabhakar Reddy of Allagadda who also quit TDP was given the MLC ticket in the MLAs’ quota within a week of joining the party and was unanimously elected to the Legislative Council.
The by-poll necessitated following MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy dead on March 12. The by-poll will take place on September 12, 2017. The by-poll became prestigious for both the parties.
Meanwhile, Municipal chairperson Desam Sulochana and about 20 councillors quit the TDP and joined the YSRCP along with Mohan Reddy. However, the TDP leaders claimed to have managed to bring back 11 councillors into the party fold. TDP district president Somisetty Venkateswarlu served notices to the chairperson and the councillors. The party would soon move a no-confidence motion to oust Sulochana. Sources said that the TDP plans to make vice-chairman Gangiseety Vijaya Kumar as chairman.
