Airport authorities are planning to ramp up the number of prepaid taxis available from the existing 80 to 120. Sources said that the demand for prepaid taxies is quite high especially during morning and evening when several flights land and take off from the airport.
The Airport authorizes are planning to introduce self-driven car facility wherein the passengers can hire their own vehicles form a private agency at the airport. Air Travellers say that private cab operators have been fleecing the passengers by charging high price due to shortage of the pre-paid taxis at the airport. The private cabs outside the airport has been charging Rs.900 to Rs.1,000 to reach Madhurawada while the actual fare is Rs.500 only.
The aircraft movement in the airport has crossed 17,000 while it was 11,809 in 2014-15. The Vizag airport operates 26 domestic and three international flights of seven airlines in a day covering 12 domestic destinations 3 international destinations.
