The resumption of Vamsadhara Phase II works at Duggupuram in Hiramandalam were disrupted by hundreds of villagers objecting the same alleging that the government failed to resolve their grievances.
The protesting villagers have removed tends, threw chairs and threatened to intensify their agitation for a better package. They also raised slogans against the government and prevented the officials entering the project site.
The villagers are objecting to payment of compensation that was fixed 10 years ago. The government proposed to pay Rs.57,000 for construction of houses for the displaced persons. They alleged that the officials did not make a proper assessment of the value of the properties.
