Textile traders in the State will down their shutters from today in protest against GST for three days.

They geared up for the bandh following call given by the Textile GST Sagharshan Samithi. They are demanding the exemption of textile/fabrics form the framework of GST failing which they will go on an indefinite strike.

The traders will observe as black day on June 30 by wearing black badges against the government’s move to levy GST on fabrics. Levying tax on textiles was unprecedented in the country’s history. It would lead to anarchy in business as small players were not equipped to comply with complex regulations of GST. AP Textile Federation president Busireddy Malleswara Reddy said that the demonetization has already shown worst impact on the textile business and the GST would be another old from the blue.

GST slabs::

  • 12% zari and embroidery
  • 5% textile (fabrics)
  • 5% readymade garments less than Rs.1,000
  • 12% readymade garments above Rs.1,000
  • 5% cotton yarn hank and cone.
