The State government taking a serious view over the incident of performance of Tantrik puja at the famous Sri Kanaka Durga Temple, today constituted a committee to inquire into the incident. The committee will submit its report in 48 hours based on which the government will take action against the concerned officials/priests.

The Hindu Dharma Prachara Samithi had lodged a complaint with the police. The Samithi president Y.Jagan Mohan Raju threatened to go on indefinite fast if the government fails to take action in a couple of days. Advocate Kotamraju Venkatesh Sarma has lodged a complaint with the police.

It may be noted here that the Minister for Endowments P.Manikyala Rao brushed aside the reports as speculative and added that there was no scope for conducting such rituals in any temple in the State.

Meanwhile, the police questioned the temple main priest Badrinath Babu and others and came to the conclusion that unauthorised persons were present in the temple at that time. Parthasarathy, a native of Viswanathapalli village in Krishna district and Srujan of Pedapuliveru village in Guntur district were also questioned. It is quite interesting that neither the Executive Officer not the temple trust board lodged a complaint with the police.

The City Police Commissioner D.Gautam Sawang said that ‘as the issue relates to the sentiments of a large section of society, we are conducting an inquiry to ascertain the facts. However, no case has been registered so far. He submitted a report to the Chief Minister.

Sources said that the Executive Engineer of the temple Venkateswara Raju is inquiring into the incident in all angles. Meanwhile, police questioned main priest Parthasarathy and also Srusjan and D.Pranav. The duo reportedly confessed having changed ‘Alankarana’ of Ammavaru.

Speaking to media, Visakha Sri Sarada Peethadipati Swarupanandendra Saraswati demanded the government to come out for whose sake the tantric pujas were performed. He questioned when the temple was in tight security, how is it possible to perform such pujas without the notice of the government. He said that the incident is more unfortunate and is not good for the country. He questioned what was the intention of the government in performing tantric pujas in the temple. He said that they will approach the court.
