State government constitutes a SIT to probe Ayesha Meera rape-cum-murder case

The State government today constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to re-investigate Ayesha Meera rape-cum-murder case.

The State government has issued orders today constituting SIT. A GO issued said that government has permitted to form a SIT headed by an officer of the rank of DIG with women police officers. Vijayawada Police Commissioner D.Gautam Sawang will supervise the re-investigation of the case.

It may be recalled that Ayesha Meera (19), a B.Pharmacy student was allegedly raped and murdered by miscreants in Sri Durga Ladies Hostel at Ibrahimpatnam on December 26, 2007. The police arrested Pidatala Satyam Babu. The High Court acquitted him on March 31, 2017 following which, the government has re-constituted a SIT to probe into the murder.
